How Stan Lee Inspired Marvel’s Avengers Developers To Tell Their Story

Anyone who is a fan of Marvel movies would probably know who Stan Lee was. One of the biggest names in comic book universe, Stan Lee was an inspiration to millions of people. Even after his death, Stan Lee has been a monumental figure in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game.

Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the game were inspired by Stan Lee’s words and tried to create a fresh and unique Marvel story . Scot Amos, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics sat down with Techradar and talked about the overall impact of Stan Lee’s philosophy on the upcoming game.

“Stan was a complicated guy,. He just loved his characters. We actually asked him, what does he want to do and what is his characterization. We had questions through fans and members of even Marvel, saying, ‘Well, what can we ask him? What is his relationship [with us]? What do we have to do?'”

“The beauty of Stan was that he made these characters because he wants to love them and enjoy them. He had this perception that any comic could be somebody’s first – and that stuck with me” 

“It’s true. This could be the first time you’ve heard of Captain America or Hawkeye or Thor, and how do I make sure you don’t feel left out or like ‘I don’t know who these characters are’ or ‘I didn’t read the comics’ or ‘I didn’t see the movies’. I don’t want that ever.

“That’s something that we’ve been very keen to say, we can’t rely on anybody having precursor knowledge, it’s really assuming. You’re showing up for cool action adventure game. We want you to fall in love with these heroes for the first time, or want you to fall in love with them all over again.”

It is important to have a unique story so as to provide a different experience to the players. Stan Lee’s words really inspired Crystal Dynamics to make an original Avengers game. We’ll have to wait to know how unique the game actually is.
