VW Polo 2018

Volkswagen group to launch the new generation VW Polo 2018 in October in UK. After 14 million sales and five previous generations, this new car sees light in 2017. Read our take on the new VW Polo.

New Exciting Exteriors

On the first look, we can easily notice that the Polo is now longer and wider. Based on the new MQB platform, the wheelbase is longer by 92 mm and the car is now 69 mm wider than the older generation. This gives us more interior space and a more mature driving experience.

It is a smart and thoroughly modern-looking car, with interesting proportions, crisp lines and a confident stance. The key exterior design feature is a double swage line that provides the flanks with a more defined shoulder line. The Polo now looks more stylish, sharp and most importantly sports a dazzling interior. The new car is supposed to attract young buyers.

Interiors

The interiors are really a step change. The old Polo was known to have simple and elegant interiors which got boring after a period of time. The new generation sports an all digital 11.7 inch active information display and a 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment display with screen pairing. The interiors look a class beyond the rivals. Available with a wide range of different trim elements and eight colour combinations, it features familiar analogue instruments and a 6.5-inch touchscreen as standard.

The dashboard materials, in the top section at least, are soft to touch, with expensive-looking texturing. The seats offer a wide range of adjustment and are supportive with firm cushioning and good side support.

Tech Offered

Apart from the looks and styling and the interior designs, modern day customers are thoroughly interested in the technology offered in the vehicle. The new Polo comes with safety features like front assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. It also features rear traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and cruise control.

Engine Options (Many of them)

The first engine offered will be the popular 94 hp 1.0 L turbo which the most people will go with. 0-62 mph will take the car 10.2 seconds. There’s also a 113 bhp variant of this engine.

The car is expected to come with the loved and hated seven speed DSG which is snappy and suits the turbo triples’ energetic on-boost power delivery. Let the revs drop too low, and both engines take a fair old time regaining their momentum.

The Mk6 will also come with a 1.6 L Diesel.

Also Volkswagen is expected to announce the 200hp Polo GTI and also a 148bhp 1.5L TSI Evo engine.

The new Polo is a big improvement over the older generation in terms of exterior styling, interior and space and driving dynamics. It will be interesting how it ranks up to its rivals like the Ford Fiesta.
