Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a commercial success but the still had its flaws. One such flaw was Rey’s ability to use the force. With almost no training, Rey was able to defeat Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. Another scene that irked some fans was when Rey used the Jedi mind trick to get out of the interrogation in The Force Awakens.
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition by Jason Fry, the explanation to how Rey was able to use the trick has been provided. The book not only tells us how Rey did it but also how she was able to amplify her powers.
“Even as he [Kylo] callously rifled through her mind, he had somehow revealed his own. Rey found herself in his mind even as he invaded hers.”
After this, Rey used the Jedi mind trick and got out of the interrogation. The metal connection between Rey and Kylo allowed him to get into the mind of Rey. While Kylo was doing his mind reading, Rey was able to push him back which ultimately unlocked her abilities and powers.
“Kylo had retreated at finding Rey in his head – had practically fled from her. But that had not been the end of that strange, sudden connection. She h ad seen more – far more. Somehow, almost instinctually, she knew how he accessed some of the powers at his commend – even though she didn’t understand them. It was as if his training had become hers, unlocking and flinging open door after door in her mind”
The scene might now be an important one but it gives us an insight as to how Rey got so good with the force in such a short time. Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition is in stores now.
