Star Wars : The Last Jedi is almost here and the actors are doing full promotion for the film. One of the actors is Mark Hamill who is pretty excited about the release of the movie. Mark Hamill’s character, Luke Skywalker was last seen in Star Wars : The Force Awakens. While his role in the movie was a small one, The Last Jedi will have him as a mentor to the young Jedi, Rey.
EW talked to Mark Hamill about his role in the upcoming movie, about where he’s at. The actor revealed that he created a devastating backstory for Luke Skywalker. He said :
“I wrote lots and lots of scenarios. I made notes that he fell in love with a woman who was a widow and had this young child. He left the Jedi to raise this young child and marry this woman. And the child got hold of a lightsaber and accidentally killed himself.”
Ofcourse improvising a character’s story is essential for the actors, when working in a film. Hamill hasn’t played the role in a long time and it looks like a good idea to get into the role. He also said that the backstory has nothing to do with the film’s plot.
“It’s nothing to do with the story, but when I think about gun violence and you read these tragic stories of kids getting hold of their parents’ guns and killing a sibling or themselves, I mean, I had to go to really dark places to get where Luke needed to be for this story.”
While this backstory might prove to be a little dark for some fans, Hamill assured that the story has no connection to The Last Jedi. Tragic or not, we would definitely want to know what Luke Skywalker has been doing all these years before Rey found him.
