Land Rover Discovery 5

The Discovery is the big brother to the Discovery Sport, it’s the 5th generation of the car it’s still a tough off roader just with a bit more style. Let’s see what Land Rover has to offer for their new entrant.

Exterior

On the outside it’s a huge SUV looks tough and built to last, the muscular looks of the car make it look like a land rover. It is the 5th generation of the Discovery and it looks better than the Discovery 4, gone is the boxy design of the car, the car is much more angular and modern looking than before.  The sharp integrated headlights look good with the day time LED lights.

The huge dimensions of the car is to provide space for all its 7 occupants. On the side the angular C-pillar looks great and the stepped up roof makes it look like a Discovery. The rear of the car with its offset number plate looks ungainly and may not be to everybody’s liking.

Interior

The interior is a mixture of luxury and rugged off roader. The interior quality is great, with soft touch plastics. It’s a practical cabin with loads of storage spaces. The car is extremely spacious. The 10 inch touchscreen is very intuitive to use and also features Andriod auto and Apple Car Play. The dials are crisp and clear and the screen in the centre provide the driver with all the vital information.

The centre console is dominated by Land Rovers electric drive mode controls, in the right setting the Discovery can take over almost anything. The overall space inside the cabin is great, the front two seats being the most comfortable. The middle row is placed a bit low so you tend to sit slightly knees up. The third row can be used by adults although space isn’t that great.

Headroom won’t be a problem for the tallest of passengers because of the stepped up roof. There’s also an electrically foldable shelf which can take upto 300 kgs of load.

Off road ability

Being a Land Rover it is capable of doing some heavy off roading, it gets the Land Rovers terrain response system which covers all kinds of terrains. The suspension can be raised 75mm from its lowest position to the highest position taking ground clearance to 283mm. Wading depth is 900mm, so there is no stopping the Discovery.

Engine Options

The India spec Discovery will get a petrol and diesel motor.

  1. 3.0lt, V6 turbocharged petrol engine which produces 340-bhp @ 6500-rpm and 450-Nm of torque mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.
  2. 3.0lt, V6 diesel which produces 256-bhp which is also mated to a 8-speed automatic gearbox.
