Justice League Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed

Justice League is out in theaters people, and it is doing great at the box office. While the critics gave the movie mixed reviews, fans are loving the movie. The DCEU has been connected well, there’s no doubt about it. But the Easter Eggs are something that every fans wants in a superhero movie.

Well, worry not people because Justice League is full of Easter Eggs and references from the DC Comics. And if you missed them between the action packed sequences, we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of 10 Justice League Easter Eggs you might have missed.

10. Exploding Wind-Up Penguins

Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been influenced by the works of Frank Miller, there’s no doubt about it. But one film that Justice League gave a reference to was 1992’s Batman Returns. When Alfred says that Batman has been doing this for so many years and the days were easier when all they had to do was fight exploding, wind-up penguins. That is exactly who Michael Keaton’s Batman had to fight in Batman Returns.

9. Doomsday Clock

When Diana tells the story of Mother Boxes to Bruce, he says “We tend to act like the Doomsday Clock has a snooze button”. Well Doomsday Clock is not just two words Bruce just said. It is actually a reference to the comics. But what exactly is it?

Coming November, DC will start with the 12 issue arc from the architect of Rebirth Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank,named Doomsday Clock. So far, we’ve only gotten some hints about the story and believe us, that’s not enough. If you want to know more about it, here is everything we know so far. 

8. Ace Chemicals 

You might have noticed this one in the trailer,but for those who did not notice it, Ace Chemicals is one of the most infamous manufacturers of toxic chemicals in the Gotham city. Infact, Ace Chemicals is the place where Joker was supposedly born (His pale skin and green hair). Suicide Squad also showed to to be the birthplace of Harley Quinn.

7. Gorilla Grodd 

Barry Allen has just started fighting crime but it looks like he has already fought one of his most formidable enemies. When Bruce surprises Barry in his secret lab/lair, he tries to impress Bruce and starts telling him his unique set of skills. One such skill was Gorilla sign language.

This is a nod to none other than Gorilla Grodd. A telepathic Gorilla, Grodd has been one of the Flash’s original enemies and a powerful one too. Since the film has established the existence of aliens, it shouldn’t be a problem introducing a kingdom of intelligent gorillas.

6. The Orange Sky

The orange sky can be seen when Steppenwolf merges the three mother boxes together. Infact, the whole third act of the movie has the orange sky in it. While the orange sky has been used before by DC during Crisis of Infinite Earths, it also refers to the justice league animated series.

The shot during the climax of the movie, where the Justice League is standing against a orange skyline is similar to the color used for Justice League Unlimited‘s introduction.

5. The Hall Of Justice 

Every superhero team needs a base of operation and Justice League has found their base. While the animated series and the most of the comics have Watchtower as their base of operation, some incarnations also have the hall of justice. And it looks like Zack Snyder is going forward with the Hall of Justice.

In the last scene, Bruce shows Diana the headquarters for the Justice League, one which will have a large, round table with six chairs – and room for more to come. The round table is known to be the trademark of the headquarters of Justice League.

4. Old Gods And The New 

The main villain of the film, Steppenwolf mentions the new gods during one scene. He says “I will take my place among the New Gods”. The mother boxes, New Gods, Darkseid and Steppenwolf are all connected to Jack Kirby’s The Fourth World. While Darkseid and Steppenwolf live on the planet Apokolips, the New Genesis is ruled by the wise Highfather.

3. Green Lanterns 

DC released an image of Aquaman with the caption “Unite The Seven”. At first, fans thought it meant uniting the 7 original members of the Justice League. But when the studio decided not to show one of the founding members, Green Lantern in the movie, the theory was quickly debunked.

Though Justice League didn’t show Hal Jordan or John Steward or even Guy Gardner, they did show a Green Lantern in the movie. An intergalactic cop was shown during the massive assault by the people of Earth against Steppenwolf and his army of parademons. When Steppenwolf kills this Green Lantern, his ring departs to find another worthy space cop while Steppenwolf watches the ring go. So Green Lanterns do exist in the DCEU.

2. Greek Gods 

Diana’s backstory has been one of the most interesting things about her. An island of women who worship Zeus and the other olympians. That’s just great. But the Greek Gods played an even more important role during the Steppenwolf invasion.

Zeus, the original God of Thunder (That’s not Thor) fought side by side with Atlanteans, Amazonians, Lanterns and men. That’s not the only Greek God to make an appearance. The archer who fired a burning arrow to Steppenwolf’s ship was none other than Artemis, the goddess of hunt. Artemis is known to the Romans by a different name : Diana. It’s clear how the people of Earth were able to defeat Steppenwolf the first time.

1. The Injustice League 

If you waited for the post credits, you probably would have screamed after watching the two scenes. The mid credits was simple : Superman Vs The Flash – Who wins? But the end credits was the showstopper. If you’re thinking how Deathstroke meeting Lex Luthor is that important, well you’re in for a treat.

Perhaps one of the greatest Justice League villains of all time, The Injustice League was formed with solely one purpose : to oppose the Justice League (Hence the name). And they are pretty good at their job. Injustice League has had different iterations over the years, but one thing has been constant. The team has always been lead by Lex Luthor and The Joker, the arch nemesis of Superman and Batman respectively.
