Games of Thrones is one of the few shows which doesn’t have a lead character. But one can argue that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are the most important characters in the series. Since the characters have been fan favorites from the start, the makers try to add Easter eggs regarding the fan favorites. And that’s exactly what show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss did.
In the last episode of Season 7, it was revealed that Jon Snow was infact the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. On her deathbed, Lyanna told the real name of Jon Snow to be Aegon Targaryen. As it turns out, David Benioff and Dan Weiss decided way back in season 3 of Jon’s true parentage. But that’s not the fun part.
Showrunners put an Easter egg way back in season 3 for the fans. As pointed out by a member of freefolk of Reddit, When Stannis’ daughter Shireen began teaching Her Davos how to read, the first word she taught him was Aegon. “This word is Aegon,” she said. “When you see ‘A,’ ‘E’ and ‘G’ together like that, it sounds like ‘egg’.

It was obviously impossible for fans to pick that Easter egg at that point. Even the actor who plays Ser Davos, Liam Cunningham told HuffPost that he had no idea that there was some hidden meaning to it. Cunningham said “they’re very good at that sort of thing” but that’s ridiculous, even by showrunner DB Benioff and Dan Weiss’ standards.
Who knows what other Easter eggs the show runners have hidden in the earlier seasons. Guess we’ll just have to see for ourselves.
