Recently, Solo: A Star Wars Story’s trailer was released we got our first look at Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian in the latest addition to the Star Wars Universe. While fans were divided over Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo, Glover’s Lando is expected to steal the show when the film opens in theaters.
In an interview with EW, Donald Glover talked about how he made Lando his own. Though he did receive some pointers from Billy Dee Williams himself, portraying a younger Lando was a task Glover had to do on his own. He said :
I always like seeing younger characters when they are in younger times because it tells a lot about how they got to where they are. Like, when I was a teenager I felt like I knew a lot, but I didn’t. By the time we meet him in Empire Strikes Back, he owns the city already. [Laughs] So, I wanted to show the person he was before that was even possible. Like, I don’t even know if he thought that was possible at the time.
I think he’s probably a little more over the top because he’s not old enough to be like, you don’t have to push so hard by the time you own the city. By then he’s like, I don’t need to prove anything to anybody, you know?
Fans only got a brief glimpse of Donald Glover as Lando due to the marketing primarily being focused on Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. While some people still think that a Han Solo prequel movie wouldn’t turn out to be good, the trailers show that this could be another win for the Star Wars saga. We just have to wait and find out.
